About this treatment

Preventive dentistry focuses on preventing dental problems, such as cavities and gum disease. Preventive treatments are often performed by a preventive assistant. The role of the preventive assistant is to support patients in maintaining healthy teeth through preventive care and education. This is often done under the supervision of a dentist or dental hygienist.

A selection of preventive treatments:

Tartar removal: removing plaque and tartar (hardened plaque) that can build up on the teeth and gums. This helps prevent gum inflammation (gingivitis) or periodontitis (severe gum inflammation).

Fluoride treatment: Fluoride is applied to the teeth to strengthen the enamel and better protect the teeth from caries (cavities). This is often recommended for people who are prone to cavities and for children up to the age of 17.

Instructions and advice on oral hygiene: advice on proper brushing and the use of toothpicks, dental floss or interdental brushes to keep the teeth and gums clean. Advice can also be given on the right diet, because sugar and acid affect the health of your teeth.

Cleaning lesson for children: good oral care from a young age contributes to the development of healthy habits and the prevention of dental problems later in life. The child is helped (together with the parents) to improve the brushing technique in a playful way and thus also becomes familiar with dental treatments.
